Tricked, even for an old dawg....

Well, just goes to show however cynical I think I am about the net.... people can still prey on my goodwill.

No big harm done. Don't know if anyone who occasionally wanders by here reads the comments, but there's one on the post before this one that looks to be from a somewhat naive student researcher/writer.

I'm a little annoyed at myself to say I took the time to respond, assuming she was genuine. A couple days later, I noted Ravelry having another kafuffle on one of the main boards. Seems my blog commenter is not a naive but genuine personage, but a slimy and not very well prepared would-be marketer trying to scam the good-hearted online knitting community into providing SOME kind of market information - to what end we're still not sure because what's been found out about the whole thing makes no sense. Right down to the fact that, if other craft/art online sites want info about Ravelry, Ravelry's usually happy to share in response to open and above-board inquiries (they're quite amazing that way).

Anyway, "Cynthia" has been caught out and in the space of about 24 hours much of Ravelry has identified a company, parent company, press releases, other web sites, ad nauseum, associated with the organization behind this "shy" "college magazine" author. I suspect someone's boss might be getting an inadvertent performance review on their marketing staff, shortly.

I was just so happy to have blog comments. What a dupe.
