Ah, there's more angst in the cat house.
Maui's been perking along with an approximately monthly injection of Vetacortyl, basically a broad steroid to control whatever combination of allergies/IBD/lymphoma he has - with cats, really, what can you do but try to make them "feel better"? It's about quality of life for them and for us.
Well, after the last one about 3 or 3.5 weeks ago, he really didn't seem to perk up. The fur got thinner and thinner again, and the slow weight gain reversed again. He's back to being pretty boney, pretty naked, and miserable. So, after discussion with Dr. Bonnie, we decided on another course of the Leukeran. We think it snapped him out of the downward spiral last time, and even though he didn't bounce back until after we'd stopped it, he did seem to recover for a while. Dr. Bonnie has suggested a different dosage approach - relatively large hit over 4 days, once every 3 weeks.
Well, we're on day 2, and last night was not fun. There's very little documentation of feline reactions to leukeran. It's generally reported to be well-tolerated. Bone marrow suppression happens with long-term dosages. But Maui, as always, has to be different. He started wandering, stumbling, and howling last night. I have no idea if this is the Leukeran, whatever's been wrong with him anyway, or something else. It's not quite as severe as his already documented hypersensitivity to sedation and anaethesia, but partway there. Almost like he's having a bad trip. And he's not eating, and not (apparently) going to the bathroom. I keep walking him down to the litter boxes, and he heads right back upstairs, stumbling and tripping as he goes.
And I couldn't get a call back from the vet today. *sigh*
