...... then there was the experimental design accident....

Since it's been seen by it's eventual owner, I can now introduce you to the new Sunset Sock v.2.0:

and promptly tell you that it has now met its demise and is a ball of string again. That was painful, this yarn is so fine it was about 1000 st/inch of sock! But, it wasn't going to work. Sunset Sock v.2.0 is my attempt to work out a diabetic-appropriate sock for Mom and her touchy feet and ankles. I am incorporating wool/cotton/elastic yarn, really stretchy ribbing on the top of the foot and around the leg, an increase at the ankle for swollen ankles, and a garter stitch sole to make it cushy.

However, the mix of garter st. rib on the bottom and vertical k3 p1 rib on the instep made the top and bottom two different lengths essentially, and put rumples and wrinkles in the sock at the top of the instep. Not good when trying to avoid pressure points. The good news was the stretchy ribbing and the increased diameter on the leg DID work. So I'm keeping my proportions but adding a bit more engineering around the transition from instep to ankle into the next attempt, we'll see.

    Final installment to come...
