Trying to isolate myself from chatter and focus on my job today, I pulled out my iPod and started dialling down my artists list.
Came across this one I'd recently ripped and forgotten about: Black Cabbage .
Read the record review from that link. I can't describe them any better, musically.
Black Cabbage is one of very, very few bands I repeatedly and deliberately sought out at live shows. Hillside Fest, the Trasheteria, or the Albion, they were THE act to see in Guelph in the years post-scholarship-undergrad but pre-pancreatic disaster (umm.. mid=90's for those who don't mark time by my personal benchmarks). A Black Cabbage show was always a frantic, thrashing crowd, which you know in most circumstances I hate, but there was something about the chemistry that happened around this band that made it the most friendly mosh pit I've ever heard of.
Unfortunately, but possibly not unexpectedly, the creative maelstrom of some 8 talented folks was not sustainable and as far as I know, these individuals all went their own ways in the late 90's. But if you're a fan of genuine Canadian Eclectic Indie music, it might be worth the effort to dig up their catalogue.
Headphones on! Back to the grind.
