Well, it was bound to happen at some point. Our first observed incident of cat vs. gravity occurred today when I popped home for lunch.
I heard a soft scuffling and saw one foot and a tail swing down below the loft railing, and before I could get there, Maui went FLUMPPPPH onto the seat of the futon.
Luckily, he was more surprised than hurt or upset. I'm not sure what he was doing, or if Sprout! pushed him. Blue was on the ground floor with me, so it wasn't her.
Also luckily, I had removed hard or pointy things from the end of the couch under the railing. I think this is some impetus to get more junk out from under the loft rail. If they're going to do that, landing on the futon cushion is fine, but if they miss that, I want them to hit carpet or floor, not say, a pile of lamps or a dissassembled shelf on which they will impale themselves.
I'm guessing if Maui did this while performing stunts on the railing, he's bright enough to not try again soon, but if it was an escape attempt from a more aggressive cat, it might not be the last.
Look out below!
